About

Nawaraj grew up in rural Nepal playing with used batteries like toys.  Only after coming to the United States for school did he learn that the high lead count in these batteries, often used in the small solar panels that are a primary source of power in Nepal, would be dangerous for a child.  Nawaraj designed a venture to educate the people of a small village, Dunai, about the risks associated with lead acid exposure and initiate safe disposal techniques by building collection centers at several convenient places and transporting collected batteries to lead-recycling companies that will pay the families.  Thus, a healthier community for children will also lead to environmental benefits from recycling and economic opportunities for these families.
