UNIDAS

Accra, Ghana

Objective: Coordinate business training to assist survivors of human trafficking and gender-based violence on the path to recovery.

Imagine a world where the vicious circle of gender-based violence has been broken, slavery abolished, and all women lead a life of dignity, equity, freedom, and opportunity.

Several university students from around the world began a movement of hope to empower women who have been victims of abuse. After launching a pilot project and encountering numerous impediments in Latin America, Unidas is building partnerships between women’s shelters in Ghana and microfinance institutions to give the women the opportunity to discover freedom through economic independence. To assist in skill development, Unidas also introduced a basic curriculum and training program to teach the women business skills that they can use to plan and operate successful microenterprises.

Unidas empowers vulnerable women and survivors of gender-based violence to lead a life of opportunity and freedom as economically independent members of society. Unidas works to bridge the gap between the shelter and various microfinance institutions. Unidas will also coordinate business training to assist women on the path to recovery and to breaking the cycle of violence.
