Objective: Reduce maternal/infant mortality rates through text message healthcare notifications.
Improve maternal/fetal health in four villages by providing text message healthcare notifications and reminders to improve medical knowledge penetration so that expecting mothers and their physicians can work together to avoid preventable pregnancy and pre-natal complications.
A team of Oxford students and Rhodes Scholars is providing text message healthcare notifications and reminders to patients in areas with low medical knowledge penetration. Health2Home will begin with maternal/fetal health reminders to women in four villages. While there are good hospitals in Uganda and many cell phones, there is very low consumption of necessary medical services and correspondingly high maternal/fetal health issues.
These text messages are meant to link women to hospitals and care, reminding them what to do, what to look out for, and when to seek help. The venturers have identified their messaging system, planned the curriculum of medical advice to be offered, and established connections with the Ministry of Health on the ground.
